I posted the following on my Nourishing Home blog today and wanted to share this with my newsletter list as well....
Today's post is going to be a bit different than my usual "Mondays on Mothering" post. Over the past week I have spent a lot of time contemplating the state of our economy, the elections, etc. Everyone knows that there are many "unknowns" about our future that can tend to get us sidetracked and fearful. The Lord has really been impressing on me lately the need to stay focused...to not let the things going on in the world around me to distract me from doing the things that really matter.
Last night as I was reading, I came across this verse:
This verse stopped me in my tracks...because it said the very thing God has been impressing on my heart - to stand firm - to continue doing the work of the Lord - to let nothing move me!
I write a challenge to you today:
- Are you standing firm in the calling that God has given you, or are you being sidetracked by the chaos in the world around you?
- Are you continuing to do the work of the Lord (serving your husband and children, taking care of your home, helping those in need, sharing the Gospel) or have you neglected these things in order to "prepare" for bad times ahead?
- Are you remaining immovable, standing upon our Rock, Jesus Christ or are you being swayed here and there by all kinds of teaching, news media, etc.?
As my husband said recently, we should be living each day as if it is our last. Make each day count. Invest in the things that count for eternity.
I think that is one of the most precious things about being a mother...we get a chance to invest in eternal things - our husband and children, then those in our sphere of influence.
Keep on keeping on, dear sisters..."because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1 Cor. 15:58b
Congratulations to the following winners of this month's ebook giveaway. Each of these ladies will receive a free copy of A 30-Day ThanksGIVING Journal via email in a little bit.

Dear Friends,
Just a quick note about the very special benefit that’s being held for The Hopeful Farm Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Kentucky that ministers to families impacted by special needs.
This is the fist time Hopeful Farm has participated in a benefit of this sort, and the resources are truly unique – as is the mission and vision of Hopeful Farm. The Novak family would consider it a privilege and honor to include you in what the Lord is doing to make the dreams of children with special needs and their families come true.
This event has been extended through October 27th, so don’t forget to check it out while there’s plenty of time to access the great products that have been donated by the homeschool community for this worthy cause.
If you would like to hear what Hopeful Farm is all about, you can access an online interview by Cindy Rushton with Claire and Jill Novak at www.hopefulfarmfoundation.org/interview.html .
Oh, and don’t forget to tell a few friends as well. They’ll thank you for giving them the chance to receive some fantastic resources, while helping this awesome ministry get off the ground.
Thanks,
Sheri
by Ray and Donna Reish
I was privileged to get a copy of The Well-Trained Heart from the authors and have been digging into this book the past few weeks. I have been learning so much. This book offers a very balanced approach to discipling your children...to homeschooling...to family life in general. What I appreciate the most is that Ray and Donna Reish consistently go back to Scripture for the basis of all they have written. In a world where there are so many voices calling out to us as homeschoolers, the Reish's share a very Biblical approach to parenting and homeschooling... straight from the Word. As I have been reading, I have felt they are speaking directly to me...touching on issues that I have been struggling with. This is a veteran homeschool couple who are sharing their hearts with us...being "real" about their experiences and what they have learned.
Click here to see the Table of Contents and click here to read the first chapter. This book can be ordered by contacting the Reish's through their website. The cost is $16.95. Order your copy today! It comes highly recommended!
Note: You might also want to check out the curriculum that the Reish's have written called Character Quality Language Arts. I haven't had a chance to review this curriculum, but it looks excellent!

We have read two of Patricia St. John's books now - Treasures of the Snow and The Tanglewoods' Secret. I can't say enough how good these books are! Besides being excellent stories, these books present the Gospel message in a very understandable and meaningful way! We used these as family read-alouds and plan to read the other three we have this year as well! I know my children have grown spiritually through reading these books together. I bought the 5-book set at Library and Educational Resources, but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere online. Right now, you can get them at Library and Educational Resources for $20.61 for the 5-book set!

As I thought about the holidays approaching and the temptation for my children (and myself) to focus on ourselves, I wanted something that we could do over the month of November that would turn our hearts more toward the Lord and toward serving others. For each day of November there is a verse to copy, memorize, and/or journal about, a place for you and your children to record things you are thankful for that day, and a place to record ways you can GIVE to others that day. It seems like we always focus on giving "thanks", but then do we turn around and GIVE to others as we have been richly blessed? I hope these journal pages will challenge you to look for ways to give to others this holiday season.
I will be drawing TWO (2) WINNERS to receive a FREE copy of this ebook!CLICK HERE for more details and to see sample pages!
